Sostaletta is an upcycled bed composed of ( two wooden pallets + Washing machine drums + half a tire )
We innovated that design specially to accomodate the needs of our brothers and sisters fleeing from different spots seeking refuge in Egypt. We study every case thouroughly and then install the beds they need at their comfort with customized color to fit their interior.
Ibrahim A. Abougendy, an eco-friendly Egyptian designer/artist, has unveiled a new bed design called "Sostaletta," aimed at improving the living conditions of families recently immigrating to Egypt due to harsh conditions. The bed, created through Mobikya, Abougendy's design house, is made from repurposed washing machine drums, tires, and wooden pallets—materials that many displaced individuals have relied on for basic survival.
Egypt has become a destination for people of various nationalities fleeing conflict and hardship. However, many of these families, along with members of Egypt's poor class, face severe living conditions, often resorting to using washing machine drums for cooking and tires for makeshift furniture. Abougendy’s Sostaletta seeks to alleviate this hardship by transforming these discarded materials into comfortable, functional beds, providing a sense of dignity and stability.
"As environmentalist designers, we have a responsibility to offer comfort using sustainable methods," Abougendy stated. "By reimagining what’s possible with recycled components, we can give these families hope and a sense of home in difficult times."
The Sostaletta beds are now being installed in the homes of recently immigrating families and Egypt's poor class, with plans to expand the initiative to other regions facing similar challenges.
If you want to participate in this campaign, you can donate $75 for installing a Sostaletta or $99 for a whole bed through Mobikya's website.
